1. What is antibacterial testing?
Antibacterial testing is the detection of some materials to restrain the role of microorganisms.
2. Testing categories
1), antibacterial testing can be divided into two categories, bacteria testing and mould testing.
(1) Bacteria testing:
According to Gram stain test, bacteria can be divided into gram-positive bacteria and gram-negative bacteria, we usually choose some certain representative bacteria, which is closely related our life, easy access, easy storage and activation. For example: Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Pseudomonas aeruginosa etc.
(2) Mould testing: the mould grows in humid environment, causing the mildew products. The common is Aspergillus Niger, Globosporum, Penicillium and Trichoderma etc.
2), According to products testing, the antibacterial testing can be divided into non-absorbent materials, absorbent materials and liquid materials.
1) non-absorbent materials is some kind of plastic, ceramics and other products of hard surface, when some certain antibacterial agents were added, the surface of products can restrain the growth of microorganism. For example, refrigerators, washing machines, dishware, etc. These all can be made into antibacterial products.
2) Absorbent materials main are some textiles. Clothing, towels, hygiene products and other daily necessities all have antibacterial products.
3) Antibacterial agents are the key antibacterial ingredients added in antibacterial products. The most common testing is the smallest antibacterial concentration.
3), According to test results, antibacterial testing includes qualitative and quantitative testing.
(1) Qualitative testing can’t determine the antibacterial capacity, only can determine whether the products have antibacterial. Common method is antibacterial central method, Quinn methods etc.
(2) Quantitative testing main covers antibacterial products, which can well evaluate the capacity of antibacterial products. Antibacterial rate or antibacterial activity value reflects antibacterial capacity.
3. New progress of antibacterial testing
Currently, with constantly development of the antibacterial materials, testing methods also should correspondingly develop. At present, a lot of new materials have antibacterial properties, such as nanometer material, photocatalytic materials etc.
