Safety testing of materials contacted with foodstuff(Foodstuff Compatibility)
In 2005, the European Union promulgated the directive 2004/1935/EC which full name is Regulation (EC) No 1935/2004 of THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT AND OF THE COUNCIL of 27 October 2004-on materials and articles intended to come into contact with food and repealing Directives 80/590/EEC and 89/109/EEC」. This regulation is on materials and articles intended to come into contact directly or indirectly with food. It will be put teeth in October 27, 2006.
Regulation No 1935/2004 introduce compulsory labelling:
And material and article intended to come into contact directly or indirectly with food should be complied with following descriptions:
-- Or marked the words "can be in contact with food " on
-- Or in accordance with the instructions of implements, for example: coffee machine, electric water jug etc.
-- Or in accordance with the symbol description in Regulation No 1935/2004
These initial requirements are not necessary to those materials and electrical products which figure designed to in contact with food.
Test products: cooking utensils (pan, hotplate, grill, etc.), tableware, food packaging, household appliances in contact wih food.
Test standards: EN1186, EN1388-1:1996, EN1388-2:1996, EN10088, etc.
Test items: Overall migration; specific migration of Pb, Cd, CrⅥ; content of Pb, Cd, As, Co, etc.
