    Food Nutrition Labeling and Detection of Labeled Components

    May 1, 2008, the Chinese Ministry of Health issued the Regulations for Food Nutrition Labeling". The specification requires all pre-packaged food sold in China must label the nutrient components. Food nutrition label is vital for export enterprises, and the United States, Australia and more than 10 countries have mandatory nutrition labeling requirement. About 25% of China's exports food to the U.S. is recalled because of failure to comply with requirements of the US. From July 1, 2010, all foods sold in Hong Kong, the nutritional labels of which dont meet the requirements of Hong Kong new revised nutrition labeling regulation, will be forced off shelfFood labels play an increasingly important role in food selection, so enterprises should pay enough attention.     Core Nutrients
    In the implementation management of food nutrition labels, nutrients will be divided into the required and the selected. Because of the importance of emphasizing the nutrients, it is called the core nutrients. In general, the core nutrients should be most significant to the public health in a country. The United States lists 15 species; Australia lists 6 species; China lists 4 species which are protein, fat, carbohydrates and sodium.

    Nutrient Reference Values, NRV
    NRV is short for China food nutrition label nutrient reference value, is dedicated to food labels, to compare the number of food nutrient content, and is a measure of nutrients commonly applied by consumers. Nutrient reference values are based primarily on our Dietary Recommended Intake (RNI) and Adequate Intake (AI) to be developed.
