The concept of Green Food
Green Food is edible produce and processed products produced according to sustainable environment principle and certain technical standards with whole-some quality control, non-pollution, safety, quality and special trademark accredited by specialized organizations.
‘produced according to certain technical standards’ means banning or restricting the use of chemosynthetic pesticides, fertilizers, additives and other substances which may possibly do harm to human health and ecological environment, according to Green Food standards in production and processing. And implement full time quality control from field to table. This is the substantial of Green Food production. At the same time, this also is the core of Green Food quality standards. ‘with special trademark accredited by specialized organizations’ means that Green Food trademark is the certification trademark registered by China Green Food Development Center in the trademark office of State Administration for Industry & Commerce, which is protected by ‘Trademark Law of the People's Republic of China’. As the trademark registrant, China Green Food Development Center own the exclusive right, including exclusive right, Assignment right, licensing right and inheritance right. Without the permission of the registrant, no unit or individual is allowed to use. ‘Safety, quality, nutrition’ is the quality characteristic of Green Food. Green Food is divided into level A and level AA. Green Food with level AA accords the same principles and standards with Organic Food.
Natural resources and ecological environment is the basic conditions for food production. Due to we usually use ‘green’ to describe things related to life, resource and environment. In order to emphasize such foods come from a good ecological environment and bring vigorous vitality to life, it was defined as ‘Green Food’.
Non-pollution, safety, quality and nutrition are the characteristics of Green Food. Non-pollution means under strict supervision and control, Green Food avoids the pollution of pesticide residue, radioactive substances, heavy metals, harmful bacteria and so on in food production and processing, in order to ensure the cleanness of g Green Food products. The quality characteristics of Green Food products include not only the high level of packaging, but also the high level of inherent quality. The inherent quality of products also includes two aspects: one is good inherent quality, the other is high nutritional value and whole-some safety index.
In order to distinguish between ordinary food, Green Food is identified by the uniform logo. Green Food logo is indicated by specific figure. The logo of Green Food is composed of three parts: Sun above, Leaf and Bud below. It is round in shape, symbolizing protection and safety. The whole picture means a harmonious life embracing sunlight. It means Green Food is safe and non-pollution food coming from clean and good ecological environment. It bring vigorous vitality to life. This logo also reminds people to protect environment and prevent pollution, create a new harmony of nature by improving the relationship between human and environment.
Green Food must have the following four conditions:
1. Green Food must come from good ecological environment, that is to say the producing area monitoring. The quality of soil, air and water must meet the requirement of‘Environmental technical terms for green food producing area’;
2. The production process of Green Food must strictly perform Green Food production technical standards, that is to say materials (such as pesticides, fertilizers, veterinary drugs, feed, food additives, etc.) used in the process of Green Food production must accord with guidelines about the use of relative means of production for Green Food. And the production operations must accord with Green Food production technical regulations;
3. Green Food products must be tested by the Green Food designated monitoring organization (PONY TEST). Its sensory, physical and chemical (heavy metals, pesticide residues, veterinary drug residues, etc.) and microbiological indexes must accord with Green Food product standards;
4. The packaging of Green Food product must meet the requirement of "General guidelines for Green Food packaging". And use the Green Food logo accord with relevant provisions.

What is the process of ‘full time quality control’ for Green Food?
For example, the key elements for the ‘full time quality control’ of Green Food pork include:
1. The main raw materials in feed such as corn, soybean meal and so on must meet the reqirement of Green Food quality standards; environment of corn, soybean production(air, soil and irrigation water) should meet Green Food production environment quality standard by environmental monitoring. According to pesticides and fertilizers usage guidelines for green food, strictly control the use of materials (pesticides, fertilizers) in the production of corn, soybean.
2. Strictly control the use of feed additives. Such as prohibiting use any drug feed additive, hormones, sedative-hypnotics. The types and methods of feed additives to be used should meet the requirements of Green Food feed additives.
3. Establish strict management system for feed processing, including the storage of raw materials, feed processing, packaging and storage of products, and distinction management system between ordinary feed.
4. Require producers provide enough nutrition and a good breeding environment to the animal. Strengthen feeding management. Enhance the disease resistance of the animal itself. Give priority to prevent disease, and establish a strict animal safety system and production records system. If it is necessary to use veterinary drugs in breeding, may use antiparasitic drugs and antibacterial drugs allowed to use in Green Food production. But should strictly abide by the stated role and purposes, use objects, use methods, dose, period of treatment and notice.
5. In principle, need to set up special slaughter, segmentation, refrigeration workshop for Green Food pigs. Its sanitation management should conform to the requirements of Green Food animal sanitation guidelines: require to establish strict testing system (such as the carcass testing, parasites testing). The water used in slaughter and segmentation workshop should be in line with Green Food processing water quality requirements.
6. The quality of pork products should be tested by Green Food products designated monitoring organizations, and meet the Green Food pork products quality requirements.
7. The packaging, transportation and storage of pork products should meet the corresponding standards and regulations for Green Food.
How to manage the use of Green Food logo?

Base on ‘Trademark Law’ and ‘Contract Law’of China, according to the ‘Green Food logo management approach’ , the use management of Green Food logo is supervised uniformly by the China Green Food Development Center. In order to supervise enterprises to perform relevant technical standards and quality control measure, check the problem of products quality by annual inspection and stochastic inspection. Abolish the logo use right of disqualification products immediately and publish to the public. |
